Listening and Speaking
In the classroom, the purpose for speaking and listening places different demands on children to use language in particular ways. All children are given opportunities to become increasingly confident and competent in using language for many purposes across all curriculum areas.Providing a variety of challenging experiences in speaking and listening enables children to build upon their existing language strengths. The classroom environment promotes language as an instrument for learning.
Daily News
For Daily News, the children will have set topics each fortnight. These topics will usually come from classroom themes, current affairs or calendar events. The children will need to practise what they will say to the class. They need to remember to speak clearly, use a voice so that every one can hear and make eye contact with the audience.Their news will only need to be 2 to 3 minutes long and they may bring in one object to support their news.One of their news items will be an assessment task for Listening and Speaking.The following tables show the topics for Term 1 and the day and week your child will have News.
